3 Ways to Increase the Efficiency of Your HVAC System

The HVAC system in your Tierra Verde, Florida, home works hard throughout the year to maintain a comfortable atmosphere. Take care of your HVAC system and keep it running efficiently by keeping up with some important tasks.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

Routine Maintenance

Routine maintenance is a necessity when it comes to keeping your HVAC system running efficiently. Most manufacturers recommend scheduling a tuneup of the air conditioning system in the spring and of the heating system in the fall. An HVAC technician will inspect your system and run some tests to make sure that air is flowing properly and all components are in good condition.

Swap the Air Filter

The air filter in your heating and cooling system prevents dirt, pollen, dander, dust, and other debris from entering the ducts. When the filter becomes clogged and dirty, airflow is restricted, and the system becomes much less efficient. As a result, it has to work harder and use more energy to move air, which means your bills will rise.

Check your filter by visually inspecting it and holding it up to the light. If you can’t see any light coming through the fibers, it’s time for a replacement. Make yourself a note to change the filter every month or two to ensure proper airflow and improved efficiency.

Program the Thermostat

If you’re in the habit of manually adjusting your thermostat when the temperature shifts, now is the time to break that habit. Constantly making manual adjustments doesn’t allow the system to operate as efficiently because it requires the system to cycle on and off more frequently. Instead, use your programmable thermostat to set up a regular schedule. You can always override the settings if you’re at home outside of the normal schedule, but setting designated times for the system to heat and cool the home ensures more efficient operation.
