Rotten Eggs

The smell of rotten eggs is often caused by a sewer line problem. You might have something caught in a U or P trap, or a clog could be limiting the flow from your drains to the sewer. Try placing a drop of peppermint oil in the drain and running some hot water. If you smell the peppermint oil in other parts of the house, the culprit is probably the U trap.

Mildew

The musty odor of mildew is always cause for concern. Mildew and mold growth can cause significant allergic symptoms, such as headaches, congestion, and sore throats. It’s hard to know for sure if mold is growing in your home since it often stays in dark, undisturbed places, such as behind the walls, beneath the floors, and in crawlspaces.

Mold can also grow within the ducts of your HVAC system when too much moisture is present, causing the spores to move through the air any time you run the heating or cooling system. A duct cleaning service will eliminate anything left behind in the ducts, including mold spores. Additionally, keeping up with duct cleaning will improve the quality of the air you breathe within your house.

Electrical Burning Odor

When you smell the familiar electrical burning odor, you’ll need to do some investigation to figure out what’s causing the smell. New appliances can give off this smell at first, but it should dissipate. A constant burning odor could indicate a wiring problem or damaged appliance, so you’ll need to call an electrician to figure out the issue and keep your home safe.
