Too much moisture in the air causes the temperature in your home to feel warmer than it is. Let’s say, for example, you have the thermostat set to 70 degrees. If there’s a lot of moisture in the air, the temperature will probably feel more like 76 to 78 degrees. Using a dehumidifier and increasing ventilation are two effective ways to lower humidity in your house.
How Increased Humidity In Your Home Happens
As the AC pulls in air, it goes through a refrigeration process. The resulting condensation from the refrigeration process is removed from the air in your home through the condensation pipe. If this pipe isn’t checked occasionally and cleaned, it can become clogged. This could cause a buildup of water in the drain pain which if not remedied, will shut down your AC or overflow and possibly damage a ceiling or floor.
Low refrigerant in your system can also reduce the effectiveness of your AC system, resulting in warmer more humid air inside your home. As a result, you not only have excessive moisture in your home but also higher cooling expenses.
Homeowners are encouraged to check their condensation pipe regularly and pour a diluted mixture of vinegar and water down the pipe to reduce biological buildup. If your AC is blowing warm, humid air, your system will need the attention of an HVAC technician.
Increase Ventilation
The kitchen and bathrooms are two areas in your home that are likely to add moisture to your home’s indoor air. To improve humidity control, you’ll need plenty of ventilation in these rooms. Use a Dehumidifier
One of the easiest ways to lower humidity in your house is to use a dehumidifier. This device is designed specifically to pull moisture out of the air.
